Adelaide-based full service firm, Wallmans Lawyers, will move to newly built premises at 400 King William Street later this year, or in early 2010.
Currently under construction, the building is a development by the local Kyren Group. It has 21,500 sqm of office accommodation over 10 upper levels, supported by an adjacent multi-deck car park. The 100 Wallmans Lawyers employees are expected to take residence on Level five.
GM, Catherine Schultz says the Wallmans practice has been in Wakefield Street, at one premises or another, since the 1970s.
"Wakefield Street is certainly a part of our history,” Catherine says. “When the firm moved in the early 1970s we defied the convention that legal practices needed to be located at the city's commercial centre, which in those days stretched about 500 metres from the Town Hall.
“To the same degree today, we wanted to retain the level of convenience for our clients and staff and decentralise from the city's busy 'legal hub', choosing rather the southern precinct which still offers close proximity to the courts but provides greater parking and general accessibility.
With more than 60% growth in staff over four years, Wallmans has outgrown its current offices.
“We are thrilled to be moving. Having celebrated 100 years in 2008, the office marks a new chapter for Wallmans,” Catherine says.
Wallmans is partnering with architecture and interior design firm, Hassell to design the new space.
