The South Australian Law Reform Institute in the University of Adelaide Law School is calling for submissions for revamping evidence laws given the increasing reliance on new technology.

Dealing with groundwater at mine sites is the focus of a new course from the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training based at Flinders University.

The City of Prospect fully supports new State Government smoke-free laws to apply across South Australia from 31 May, saying they will alleviate serious health and maintenance problems.

Playground areas and covered public transport waiting areas will become smoke-free, and local councils and other incorporated bodies can apply to have outdoor areas or events declared smoke-free.

SA Premier Jay Weatherill has launched a $4m plan to renovate the western end of Hindley Street, with Adelaide City Council and the University of South Australia adding $1m each.

BankSA has posed a 4.3% increase in net profit after tax to $97 million for the six months ended March 31 compared with the same period last year, while total deposits rose by 8% to a record $10 billion.

The result was underpinned by the strong growth in deposits, gains in home lending and a 27% decline in impairment charges to just $16 million.
